CIVIL SERVICE 67 WELWYN 6

WAM BAM

After the disappointment of last week Civil Service had a point to prove and Welwyn were on the receiving end of that frustration. Starting well Civil Service felt their way into the game probing the Welwyn defence testing it and after 13 minutes in their first attacking move 13 Chris Mckay spun his way to the try line with Brendon Robinson converting 7-0. Welwyn came straight back pushing up into the Civil Service 22 and were exerting good pressure but the defence was good and with a well placed clearance kick and attacking the Welwyn lineout Civil Service were soon on the move again pressing up inside their 22 from one side of the field to the other ending with Wihan Grobler scoring the first of his four tries of the afternoon 12-0. Welwyn worked the ball up field and were awarded a penalty on 19 minutes which was converted for their first points 12-3 on 19 minutes. Civil Service were growing in confidence and were starting to really move the ball about leading to tries from Hadyn Cummings 27 minutes, Wihan Grobler 32, 40 minutes and Duncan Rutherford 43 minutes to end the half at 34 -6. Civil Service had made two changes just before half time that saw the return of Tom Sincock and Steve Richardson. Civil Service continued the pressure on Welwyn who seemed to have little answer apart from throwing a few handbags and escaping any cards for doing so. The score soon started to tick over again and it was Hadyn Cummings 63 minutes, Wihan Grobler 73 minutes, Jayme Salmon 76 minutes, Duncan Rutherford 77 minutes and Aaron Campbell 81 minutes who scored and converted his own try from a well timed charge down at the end of the game and was named man of the match for his overall contribution to the game. The final score was 67 -6 Civil Service played confidently and stayed focused to the final whistle and maintained their discipline despite the provocation. Next up is Hammersmith and Fulham in the Middlesex Cup followed by the final game of 2008 against league leaders Staines away December 20th
