CIVIL SERVICE SWEEP HIGH WYCOMBE ASIDE IN DECISIVE WIN IN FIRST ROUND OF EDF NATIONAL TROPHY.
Another strong showing for Civil Service, starting well and forcing High Wycombe to defend, gaining two penalties converted by Aaron Campbell 6-0 after 12 minutes. High Wycombe came back forcing their way into the Civil Service 22 and also being awarded two penalties both converted by 15, 6-6 after 18 minutes. The game settled for a few minutes as Civil Service composed themselves for the next period of play during which they took High Wycombe apart scoring 4 tries starting with Simon Dillon 33 minutes, Duncan Rutherford on 35 minutes Nick Cervetto on 39 minutes completed by Duncan Rutherford’s second on 47 minute and 3 conversions by Aaron Campbell to end at 32-6, a purple patch to finish the half. During this period Civil Service dominated the forward battle the backs showed great confidence with the ball and were able to complete some good plays. High Wycombe continued to compete for the ball but could not unlock the Civil Service defence to make any impression on the game. Second half started with substitutions for Civil Service changing the flankers to start the ball rolling, the score board soon started to turn over again with hooker Mark Forbes diving over after some well controlled forward play to score 37-6 on 55 minutes. A further substitution bringing Jonathan Mitchell at prop who was soon into the action driving forward High Wycombe were struggling to keep pace and as the attackers broke the defence with some good passing Dan Sullivan scored his first try for Civil Service, conversion by Aaron Campbell 44-6 on 62 minutes. Civil Service continued to play open fast moving rugby leading to another break away try for winger Wihan Grobler conversion by Aaron Campbell 51-6 on 75 minutes. Civil Service made their last substitution on came; Hadyn Cummings and following play up seized the opportunity and squeezed along the touch line for the final try 56-6 on the 78 minutes. Confidence will be high as the team head towards an important league game away against Woodford RFC on the 25th October and look forward to the 2nd round of the EDF National Trophy Cup drawn at home to Barnstaple currently 5th in South West 1 League on the 22nd November.
