letchworth 6 civil service 6

DOG FIGHT ENDS IN DRAW

This was definitely one of those games full of tension Civil Service were involved in a tough game from the start Letchworth having had a wobbly start to the season had recruited well and have turned their early form around. Both packs were competing hard with each other with very little change in the opening minutes Civil Service struck first from a well taken penalty by Aaron Campbell but within 10 minutes honours were even with a penalty from Letchworth 3-3. The game swept up and down the field and with the Civil Service performance punctuated by a series of uncharacteristic handling errors, unable to get the ball moving in the backs a fumble led to another penalty for Letchworth after 20 minutes to take the lead 6-3. The game was building with Letchworth putting a lot of pressure onto Civil Service who responded by driving the ball up field and Letchworth defending desperately, forced to give away a penalty converted by Aaron Campbell 6-6 on forty minutes, with all the stoppages the half drifted into 53 minutes before the red hot whistle closed the half. Second half started Civil Service now playing into the strong wind, the home crowd hoped Letchworth would take full advantage of the conditions but in truth Civil Service playing well did not allow them to make much headway and indeed it was Civil Service that came closest to scoring and were only denied by a try saving tackle by Letchworth, taking the wingers feet into touch just before the touch down. Both sides missed game winning penalties and in the end was probably a fair result in this competitive game. Saturday the 15th November Civil Service play second place Staines at home in a top of the league clash kick off 2.30pm
